Case Study: Commodities

A highly regarded Commodities Head Hunter with 11 years' market experience had a vision - to be number one in his field. Already working with an established boutique energy search firm where he had built an unrivalled reputation as a leading energy and commodity headhunter, he was approached by International Executive Search in December 2009 with a view to building a commodities franchise.

From our initial dialogue we could see that he was firmly committed to building his own enterprise. We were also inspired by his business plan and potential cultural fit. Accordingly we offered him investment and support, including the direct involvement of James Caan. Subsequently, through modelling and due diligence it was clear a partnership/joint venture would accelerate the business proposal.

In March 2010 HBI Commodities (HBIC) was formed and that same individual, is now Managing Director and Partner. Already a highly successful entity, HBIC has a strong team of ex-industry professionals, whilst future plans include having global offices in all major energy hubs. Support and mentoring has also filtered through the entire commodities team and helped key hires transact retained mandates within just weeks of starting.
